PCNM’s pathologists are board-certified by the American Board of Pathology. Our team provides general pathology expertise and specialization in hematopathology. In addition to providing services at PCNM, each pathologist also provides laboratory directorship services for a number of clinical labs.


George A. Atkinson, MD, FCAP
Dr. Atkinson, PCNM’s Laboratory Director, has been with PCNM since 1997. He is Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. After graduating from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, he completed his Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency and a Surgical Pathology fellowship at Parkland Memorial Hospital / University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He is licensed to practice medicine in New Mexico and Texas. Dr. Atkinson is a General Pathologist with a special interest in Dermatopathology.


Sanjay Lahiri, MD, FCAP
Dr. Lahiri joined PCNM in 2006. Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology, he graduated from Calcutta National Medical College, Kolkata, India, worked as Consultant Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist at Wellesley Medicentre, a private practice lab in Kolkata, and was visiting pathologist at The Cancer Center Welfare Home and Research Institute, performing and interpreting Fine needle Aspiration Cytology.

After moving to the US, he completed Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency and Hematopathology fellowship at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Albuquerque, and Surgical Pathology fellowship at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston.

Dr. Lahiri is a Preceptor for the Department of Pathology, University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and is licensed in New Mexico, California, and India.


Edgar G Fischer, MD
Dr. Fischer joined PCNM in October of 2016.  He graduated from the University of Heidelberg Medical School in Germany in 1993.  He completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of New Mexico in 2002 and a Fellowship in Surgical Pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, in 2003.  He was on Faculty as a general surgical pathologist at the University of New Mexico from 2003 to 2016, where he remains Voluntary Faculty.  He is a general pathologist with special interest in gynecologic, urologic, and gastrointestinal pathology as well as cytopathology.  He is licensed in New Mexico and Minnesota.  He enjoys spending time with family, and his hobbies include astronomy, classical music, and hiking.


Mujun Yu, MD, FCAP
Dr. Yu began his association with PCNM in 2009. He is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology, He graduated from Capital Medical University in Beijing China, and came to the US first to obtain a Ph.D. at Rutgers University and then completed his residency at the University of Massachusetts, followed by a Cytopathology fellowship. He is a general pathologist with interest in women’s health, lung, skin and GI pathology. He emphasizes evidence-based medicine and interactive pathology in his practice. He is licensed in New Mexico, Texas, and several other states. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, table tennis, and music.
