PATHOLOGY CONSULTANTS OF NEW MEXICO JOINS FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19

National and state leaders have identified COVID-19 testing and contact tracing as the pillars of the plans to reopen New Mexico and the nation. Pathology Consultants of New Mexico (PCNM) has joined the effort to increase COVID testing statewide.

This new testing provided by PCNM can potentially increase statewide testing capacity by 20% to help New Mexico safely reopen. PCNM began testing on Monday (May 18).

PCNM is an established 70-year-old medical laboratory serving New Mexico and west Texas with medical laboratories located in Roswell and Las Cruces.

“Due to recent FDA emergency approval, we can now perform COVID testing with our existing high-volume throughput laboratory instruments,” Lisa Moores, PCNM CEO, said. “This is an opportunity to continue to serve New Mexico, especially during this time of crisis.”

PCNM is working closely with the New Mexico Department of Health and Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s office to coordinate expanding testing across New Mexico, and to secure a robust testing material supply chain.

PCNM Pathologist Sanjay Lahiri, MD, said: “Testing is essential to caring for our patients and opening up the economy safely, and this is our contribution to the fight against the virus.”

Pathology is the specialized medical practice and science dealing with the laboratory examination of samples of body tissue and fluids for diagnostic or forensic purposes. As an independent, physician-owned lab, PCNM has provided pathology services to the southwest United States for over 70 years.

Onsite specimen collection will not be offered at either PCNM location. Patients wishing to be tested must go to the Department of Health or to a participating hospital or clinic of their choice. The facility will collect the sample and send it to the lab for testing. Patients will receive their results from their medical provider.”
